Here are a few tips to help conserve water with your irrigation system:
- Install a Master Valve: A Master valve acts as a back up for the system if a zone valve breaks or develops a leak. The Master Valve then shuts off the entire system to minimize water loss and damage. This feature is especially helpful if a break were to happen while out of town, or if you are irrigating on a slope.
- Install a Rain and Temperature Gauge: When a rain gauge detects a considerable amount of rain, it shuts off the automatic irrigation valves. The Temperature sensor detects the air temperature and relative humidity to determine the dew point and when the least amount of evaporation will occur. These detectors usually pay for themselves within a year.
3: Switch to Pop Up Sprayers: Pop Up Sprayers water much slower and more uniformly that conventional sprayers thus reducing runoff water waste.
